What is the PEP (Product Environmental Profile)?

Energy Efficiency Author Studio Content Author Studio Content 26/03/2024

PEP (Product Environmental Profile) is a Type III quantitative environmental declaration in compliance with ISO 14025. This profile applies specifically to electrical, electronic and air conditioning (HVAC-R) products. Through Life Cycle Analysis (LCA), the PEP provides reliable information on the environmental impact of a product, considering multiple criteria.

Here are the key aspects of PEP:

  • LCA methodology: the PEP is based on a rigorous analysis of the product's life cycle. This involves the collection and analysis of environmental data, based on a solid, validated scientific basis.
  • Voluntary Declaration: Companies can create and edit a PEP declaration on a voluntary basis under their own responsibility. However, independent verification is required to ensure compliance with the ecopassport® PEP Program requirements.
  • Rules and Documents: The PEP must follow the ecopassport® PEP Program Product Category Rules (PCR), which have been reviewed by an external panel of recognized LCA experts. In addition, the Editorial Policy for communicating environmental data through the PEP statement must be followed.
  • Transparent Information: The PEP provides detailed information on the environmental impact of the product, including aspects such as energy consumption, emissions, resource use and more.
